Sr. Project Manager (Washington, DC)

Applied Systems Development Corporation is looking for a Sr. Project Manager for a contract with our government customer in Washington, DC. The Sr. Project Manager will have a full understanding of project management theory and practices. Independently plan and execute all project management tasks to produce successful projects including project definition, planning, documentation, scheduling, budgeting, risk planning, issues tracking and progress measurement.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Applied knowledge in all aspects of the software development life cycle (SDLC) concepts and best practices including requirements definition, use cases, business rules, change management and testing
  • Strong familiarity with project management software and tools/techniques such as MS Project, EVM, etc.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and /or external customers; dedicated to meeting internal and external customer expectations and requirements; and obtain customer feedback to use to improve products and services
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Deliver presentations, project status updates, and briefings to technical and non-technical audiences--including engaging audience, maintaining focus, handling difficult questions and situations, and suggesting actions, as appropriate
  • Skilled in facilitation techniques, collaboration and negotiation skills, with the ability to obtain buy-in and confidence from all stakeholders
  • Ability to manage teams in a fast-paced, dynamically changing environment
  • Ability to manage multiple commitments with shifting priorities, demands and timelines
  • Strong leadership skills to communicate a compelling vision or sense of core purpose shared by everyone; create and foster a climate in which people want to do their best to deliver the highest-quality products and services and develop professionally
  • Ability to talk with individuals and groups about their needs and ask the right questions to surface essential requirements information
  • Possesses interpersonal skills, to help negotiate priorities and to resolve conflicts among project stakeholders (such as customers, end users and third party tool vendors/s)

Major Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for project-related issues and activities
  • Participates in technical discussions new projects
  • Conducts peer reviews and provides guidance to troubleshoot functional, logistical, and other issues
  • Defines project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders
  • Manages and reports program and project status including budget forecast/earned value to relevant stakeholders
  • Ensures the project deliverables are submitted as planned
  • Proactively manages changes in project scope, identifies potential crises, and devises contingency plans 
  • Adheres to the organization's SDLC processes and ensures project performance metrics are achieved and exceeded on a regular basis
  • Sets and continually manages project expectations with team members and other stakeholders
  • Directs and makes project related decisions in compliance with contract regulations and organization standards 
  • Seeks appropriate guidance and approvals from client on project decisions and deliverables to deliver quality service
  • Coaches, mentors, motivates and supervises project team members, and influences them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work
  • Builds, develops, and grows any business relationships vital to the success of the project
  • Conducts lessons learned and provides recommendations report for future use


  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university or equivalent


  • Minimum of 8 years of project management experience and a total of 12 years professional work experience
  • Experience​ in planning, evaluating, directing, tracking, analyzing and coordinating large, complex projects
  • Experience as a project manager of a cross-organizational project that has exceeded $5 million in life-cycle costs
  • US Citizen-Must be able to attain a NACI clearance (Public Trust) with financial background check.
  • PMP required
  • PMI-SP preferred
